Audax 12 Hour Time Trial Rules
Rules below are set out in the best interest of all attendees of the 12 hour time trial
- Organisers and marshal rulings and decisions trump all rules and decisions must be adhered to by all attendees
- Rules of the Road must be adhered to by all attending the event, this includes, Riders their crew and supporters, event times keepers, event marshalls, event safety and medical crew and organisers, organisers and marshalls making decisions must first consider the Rules of the Road and the safety of all persons within the area of the event the includes but not limited to, local residents, persons passing through, riders their crew and supporters, event times keepers, event marshalls, event safety and medical crew and organisers.
- Lighting on bikes, there must be a red rear flashing light not exceeding 50 lumens or less than 15 lumens
- No rider may draft from another rider for more than is necessary to over take the next rider, there will be 1 warning then the second warning will have a percentage penalty applied to their finished distance of 5 percent to offenders, on the third time the rider will be removed from the event when seen drafting by race organisers and marshalls or time keepers
- Time and distance will be calculated by 2 methods, one being a GPS unit such as garmin, wahoo or a device with similar abilities.( devices must be approved before hand or on the day before the rider starts by the event organisers, the second method will be time keepers, for persons without allowed GPS units or devices Time keepers will log the time as riders pass and the last lap will be calculated based on the average time based on on the avg speed of the last log of the last fully complete section with the avg speed calculated to estimate the last section, examples will be provided on the website.
- Types of cycling bicycles allowed, any bike propelled by human power including but not entirely, Road Bikes*, strait bar bikes*, Time Trial bikes, Mountian Bikes, BMX bikes, gravel bikes, (* meaning with tri bars). Electric Bikes may be considered if presented by a person with a disability that prevents them from riding a bike in any normal environment, this must be pre approved by the event organisers to keep the event open and inclusive to all persons. If you have any concerns of any kind regarding this rule please contact us. We would be happy for you to ask questions and very possibly enlighten us. Rule 7 applies to electric bikes if approved for persons with a disability.
- Riders needing to stop on the road must hand signal to all other riders and road users and pull up to their left hand side, once stopped they must make themselves safe from other riders passing and other road users, if a rider pulls over they may not get assistance from support crew or anyone else that is not an event marshal or organiser, you may wave or flag down an event marshal or organiser who will be visible by an orange light beacon on the roof of their car, you may also phone the safety number for assistance be it medical, mechanical or other that is related to the event, any rider needing a lift to any point from the event marshal or organisers will have that lap removed in total be it 1 metre or 44 kilometres.
- Support crew, supporters or by standers attending must not set themselves up or anything they own or are responsibles for that is deemed to be by event organisers or marshals unsafe to the event .
- Riders in the event must be able to repair their own bike on the road and cannot get assistance from outside, they will be able to get assistance to get dropped to a point by event marshals or organisers but consideration must be considered by the rider that this assistance me take some time, it is advised that riders have some basic knowledge to allow themselves to help themselves.
- Roadside markings, there will be roadside makings warning riders of turns and road surface issues, a turn warning sign will be posted 200 & 100 metres from a turn of which there are only 3 turns, a Roundabout will be placed where possible to notify the rider of a roundabout ahead, there will be red triangle signs placed on the side of the road to warn of road surface issues ahead, these issues may include loose gravel, cracked road surface or a hole in the road surface.
